How to watch the game without ruining your health.

You’re likely fighting a losing up hill battle from the Monday jump.


Here’s the deal Sunday is known to be a lazy day. “On the seventh day he rested” Pancakes, church, family time, became the norm but now it’s that in addition to football. 1-4 and then football 430-7 30 then again 815 -1115. So what? It’s 1 day right? Well it wouldn’t be that big of a deal had it not followed a college football day, or a golf outing that involves drinking with the boys and if you’re trying to make the excuse you don’t watch football, Saturdays are typically date nights and social gatherings. so the weekends your health is on quite the downward spiral.


12-ounce can of Coors Light typically contains around 102 calories. Therefore, if you were to consume 6 cans of Coors Light, that would be approximately 612 calories.


1 boneless honey barbecue wing from your favorite chain has roughly 100 calories,


1 Serving of whole pepperoni pizza (Costco) contains 4301 Calories that’s 430/ slice


When the most basic health advice is move more and eat less why are you doing the opposite week in and week out?


Here are a few of my tips and tricks I use to stay young, by staying active and just being conscious of the food that I’m eating while still enjoying my Detroit Lions on Sunday.


Get moving:

My first step is how I start everyday is to get up and go for a walk with my dog while I drink my morning coffee. Instead of sitting there watching 2-3 hours of pregame, or waiting around for your my kids soccer game get up “early” and start your day right,


If you suck, and didn’t wake up early you can always walk at the kids game soccer game.  And there are times in between NFL games you should poop probably ask your dog yeah? No dog? Walk your wife or your girlfriend, every one benefits from being outside and walking even if you just walk around the yard, maybe throw a ball for your dog…. Or your girlfriend, who ever.

You can also dance, play ping pong, badminton, jump rope, have sex, anything to get your heart rate up through movement.


I also like to sneak mini movement sessions in to the game, Something I’ve done since college is to make the game a game for me. If there’s a touchdown scored by my team I’ll do a set let’s say 10 plyo squats. If it’s scored by the other team I do 10 plyo pushups. Interception? Hold a plank until after the commercial break. Field goal? Pop 20 kettle bell swings. These aren’t rules that can’t be changed modify it and try it out on your own.  I choose something that’s gonna take 10 to 20 seconds with a quick burst of energy. Instead of looking and feeling like a weirdo by being the only person doing this alone, I get the people around me involved I like to make bets with people 20 pushups says he makes this 60 yard field goal, or I’ll beg you 1:00 of jump rope that were down at the end of the quarter. I’ve never watched a game with a friend and not gotten them into it honestly the bigger the party the more people join in on the bets, especially if they’re drinking.



The first food hack that comes to Sundays is to eat a real breakfast! After your walk load up on eggs, bacon, butter, and raw milk spread avocado on your toast. Get good food in with the nutrients you actually need before kick off..  knowing you aim to eat dinner earlier.


Now it’s important to remember You’re an adult watching football, not a high school kid watching figure skating I don’t expect you to serve vegetable platters or fruit salads. Here’s how I get away from  traditional high carb snacks, wings and pizza. And still have a bomb ass game day.


The grill!

Nothing says man shit like a slab of meat on the grill! Steaks, ribs, and chicken breast are all lights out options and if you really into hosting parties and doing it up, you can turn up the service and turn those things into kebabs. Or simplify it and turn it into burgers and chicken wraps….your choice but you have to have animal protein that is not processed. If you can’t grill because you suck at it or you don’t have one: another go to of mine is venison or bison chili, or even dropping an entire roast into a crockpot. there’s recipes everywhere online so I won’t bore you with that. Just know that these foods are high in protein, minerals and vitamins. Your body needs without the calories and carbohydrates that you do not need to be packing in on a Sunday.


The drink

I cut out beer completely from my diet. This is actually the topic of another blog I’m writing. But Beer contains phytoestrogens, which are chemicals found in hops and barley that can increase estrogen production. Alcohol is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream and converted to energy by the liver, if our energy is not used it’s stored as fat. Alcohol in general slows digestion, because the body processes alcohol before other foods the food you eat is on the literal back burner. You and I both know it wasn’t the healthiest food choice 6 beers deep boys.

  • Wake & walk

  • 4 Eggs & bacon.

  • Don’t sit all day.

  • Eat dinner early & eat a high animal protein meal.
